Interested in teaching a course for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute?

We would love to receive your proposal! Opportunities for teaching include anything from six-week to two-week session courses, or one-time, single-session lectures. Classes are taught in person at our Arapeen Drive or online via Zoom. Other locations may be available by special arrangement.

Osher Offers Classes During Four Terms per Year:

Fall ~ mid-September-October ~ Course proposal deadline May 1
Winter ~ mid-January-February ~ Course proposal deadline October 1
Spring ~ Late March- early May ~ Course proposal deadline December 1
Summer ~ Late May- end of June ~ Course proposal deadline March 1

The Osher Curriculum Committee, comprised of Osher member volunteers, meets monthly and approves course proposals each May, October, December, and March for the upcoming term. All proposals are reviewed and approved by the committee approximately two weeks after the proposal deadlines. We will contact you as soon as possible after the approval process to confirm acceptance and scheduling.

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to hire NEW out-of-state instructors (except by special permission). This is a decision made by Utah State government, that all state employees must reside in Utah. Exceptions are possible but extremely rare for NEW instructors to our program who wish to be paid. Volunteers are welcomed and existing out-of-state instructors are invited to propose courses, as they have already received special approval from our HR department. Thank you for your understanding!

Meet Our Instructors

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute would not be the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute without our wonderfully talented and dedicated instructors! Take a moment to virtually meet some of our instructors by reading the bios of those who are currently teaching for us. You can also watch a selection of introductory videos that several instructors have created as previews of their classes. These videos are attached in individual course listings. After the hiring process, instructor bios are also linked to each class in our course listings.

Instructor Responsibilities Regarding Class Accessibility

New will go into effect on April 26, 2027. These apply to all public universities, including Osher classes.

If you plan to share digital copies of your syllabus or class handouts with class members, they must be formatted in compliance with the guidelines. It is each instructor’s responsibility to understand how the guidelines apply to their classes and make the appropriate decisions and adjustments! (If you do not want or need to send out digital handouts to your class members via email, that is a perfectly acceptable option for many Osher classes, which are taken non-credit simply for enjoyment and fun.)

Thanks to our instructor Shawna Stewart, Osher is able to provide classes to help instructors who do wish to digitally share materials to navigate the new federal requirements. All instructors are encouraged to either take the Digital Accessibility for Instructors: Introduction class or watch the video below to help them make their decision to share or not share their materials.
